HAVING fired blanks in the last two matches, Zesco United will be eager to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they tackle Mufulira Wanderers in a Super Division week 19 match at Shinde Stadium.
Zesco have collected two points out of a possible six in the last two matches. The reigning champions battled to goalless draws with Napsa Stars and Nakambala Leopards.
Zesco’s last win was on July 19 – a 2-1 victory over Green Buffaloes in Ndola.
Zesco have 40 points, four better than second-placed Power Dynamos who are away to Napsa Stars. Third-placed Zanaco on 35 points take on Lusaka Dynamos in a local derby.
Zesco strikers will be hoping to end the goal drought when they stroll on the Shinde Stadium pitch.
Against Nakambala, Zesco hit the crossbar three times through Cletus Chama, Jonas Sakuwaha and Kondwani Mtonga.
Coach George Lwandamina will be hoping for maximum points against his former side where he featured in the 1980s and early 1990s.
In the first leg in Ndola, Zesco thumped Wanderers 4-1 and Lwandamina will be looking forward to completing a double over the nine-time Super Division champions.
To do the job, Lwandamina will turn to Jackson Mwanza, Winston Kalengo, Chama, Sakuwaha, Mwape Mwelwa and Mtonga.
Chama, Kalengo, Mwanza and Kenyan defender David Odhiambo contributed a goal apiece when Zesco whitewashed Wanderers on April 12 in Ndola.
But Wanderers have a good home record and the worst result they have recorded is a draw.
Coach Manfred Chabinga is aware of Zesco’s strength and will unleash his best 11 so that they avoid dropping points at home. Wanderers, who beat National Assembly 1-0 in Lusaka last Sunday, are fifth on the log with 29 points.
