Zesco United punish Nkana yet again


ZESCO United on Saturday came from behind to beat Nkana in a thrilling Super Division Week 20 match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to extend their dominance over the Kitwe outfit.

The win pushed Zesco to 46 points, seven better than Zanaco and Power Dynamos. Zanaco drew 1-1 with Green Buffaloes.

Power host Nakambala Leopards on Sunday.

Nkana took the lead in the sixth minute when Simon Bwalya’s headed in a Donashano Malama thrown in.

Goalkeeper Jacob Banda missed the ball and Bwalya scored.

Zesco levelled in the 16th minute with Mwape Mwelwa placing a low shot past Mucheleng’anga. Mwelwa benefited from a Cletus Chama pass.

Six minutes later, Freddy Tshimenga fired a cracker with the ball hitting the inside of the upright before rolling in the net.

Mwelwa, Jackson Mwanza and Chama exchanged passes before the latter placed a thunderbolt which gave Mucheleg’anga no chance on 35 minutes.

Nkana coach Aggrey Chiyangi responded by withdrewing defender Kapota Kayawe for Amos Simwanza in the 39th minute but still Zesco were unstoppable.

Justin Zulu made it 4-2 on the nick of half time sliding in a Winston Kalengo cross.

Nkana got the third goal on 48 minutes after Walter Bwalya benefited from a Banda error. Banda failed to deal with Simon’s cross and Walter made no mistake.

Mwanza scored the fifth goal from a free kick on the hour mark.
