I WANT TO WIN THE CAF AFRICAN CHAMPIONS' LEAGUE WITH ZESCO UNITED — GEORGE LWANDAMINA

At club level George Lwandamina has led Green Buffaloes to runners-up finishes in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.

He won the Barclays Cup with Red Arrows in 2013.

Not only did he repeat that the following season with Zesco United.

He went on to the league and cup double, sealing a perfect debut season with Zesco United.

His other previous appointments include Kabwe Warriors, Nchanga Rangers where he was technical director from 2000 to 2001, and Mufulira Wanderers where he won two league titles as Ashios Melu’s assistant in 1995 and 1996.

Despite this recent success, he admits that winning the CAF African Champions League remains a prime target at Zesco United but says such a feat is always difficult.

He is confident that his star-studded team — consisting of a melting pot of Nigerian, Kenyan, Togolese, and of course the local Zambian football flavor (coupled with the large fast growing Colombian fanbase) —will retain the Zambian Premier League and Barclays Cup titles, and qualify for the group stages of the CAF African Champions League next year.

If they are to make strides forward, Zesco United must do so initially without Kondwani Mtonga, and the suspended Justin Zulu.

Everyone is aware of recent history of Zambian players winning the CAF African Champions League with Congolese club TP Mazembe.

However, Lwandamina would dearly love to take the title to Zambia but accepts the challenge is a tough one.
