Primera Division de Zambia footballer of the year Winston Kalengo has signed a one year deal with Congo Brazzaville side AC Leopards.
Zesco United General Secretary Justin Mumba said the two Clubs concluded talks this evening and the goal poacher is set to join his new club before 7th February when the league in that country commences.
And Kalengo told www.zescounitedfc.com that leaving Zesco United is emotional for him because he feels like he is leaving a part of him.
“I have been here for five years and leaving home is like leaving a part of me although I feel I have played my part here and it’s time for me to move and try out a new challenge,” he said.
He said he owes his 2015 success to God and the entire Zesco United for the team work and the hard work exhibited throughout the year.
Kalengo said he feels there is a lot of competition at Zesco United hence his performance this year.
“Am certain that Zesco United will go far in the champions League as well as in the Local league next year because there are a lot of players that is a lot of competition which results in hard work, the George Lwandamina led Technical bench is excellent and the executive put in the best to make sure the team has all the equipment,” he said.
He said he will leave his mantle with Lazarous Kambole who he feels has a bright future and can fit in his shoes because he is hardworking.
“I have confidence in the young man and am sure he will one day make headlines, I would like him to take my number next year and therefore I would like to take this opportunity to ask the Team manager to give Lazarous jersey 10,” he said.
And Mumba said the club is happy that Kalengo’s hard work this year has been recognized by a lot of clubs looking at the number of offers that were made for him.
“We are happy that among all the offers we got for the player he chose this one because it had the best conditions and as a club we will support him even as he settles at his new club. He has been an instrumental player in the years he has been here and we are happy that his hard work is paying off,” he said.
Mumba stated that Kalengo will return to Zesco United at the end of his contract.
