For those of you who did not get the chance to watch the Zambian league champions Zesco United's 2nd leg game away to Horoya in the CAF African Champions League, boy you missed a great game of football.
A game devoid of a midfield filled with end-to-end goalmouth action with the home team resorting to chipante pante (long balls) in the latter stages of the tie, Horoya's 2-0 win on the night was just not enough to overturn their 4-1 aggregate deficit they carried into the game.
That is not to say Horoya did not push — because they did. Despite throwing every single player forward, including their goalkeeper for the setpieces in injury time, that crucial 3rd goal which could have won them the tie eluded them, all thanks to some resolute 2nd-half defending by the Zambian champions Zesco United.
Considering how much the Togolese referee assisted Horoya by awarding two dubious 1st half penalties to Horoya and flashing a dubious red card which reduced Zesco United to 10 men 25 minutes into the game, one would easily conclude that Horoya were simply not good enough and do not quite have the credentials to compete against the best in Africa.
Also, when you consider that despite all the unfair efforts Horoya made to swing the tie in their favor, for example harassing the Zesco United cameraman, confiscating the camera, and deleting any video evidence of the controversial penalties, Horoya still fell short, it says something about either how much the Guinean side fell short, or just how good Zesco United were.
Off the pitch, the home fans even went as far as stoning Zesco United's Anthony Akumu in the eye, but the Kenyan international has since recovered. All in all, Horoya had only themselved to blame for not progressing.
