Firstly, George Lwandamina got his tactics spot on. A few defensive lapses proved to be Zesco United's undoing. Every team has its weaknesses and set pieces seem to be Zesco's. The defenders were caught ball watching. As one Zesco United fan inboxed and rightly said that its due to the slow nature of set pieces in the Zambian Super League that Zesco were shocked that Wydad opted for a short corner routine and some individual brilliance led to the ball.
Lwandamina letting 18 year old fullback Shemmy Mayembe start wasn't a mistake. One good thing about Zesco is that when a player performs that means he will get that position. Shemmy has been performing well since his debut against Nkwazi followed by tough matches against the likes of Zanaco.
All those games helped him cement his place and his bad day at the office is part of a learning curve. If Zesco are not giving their youngsters an opportunity how will they progress?

WHAT SHOULD ZESCO DO TO MOVE ON FROM THIS RESULT?
Zesco need to beef up their squad and add one or two quality players. But locally, would Zanaco or Power Dynamos sell their first choice goalkeepers to rivals? Gone are the days when Zambian clubs used to help each other out by giving your opponents a player for continental success. Now every club has its own ambitions and good players are hard to come by.
Zesco definitely need another goalkeeper to create competition. Zesco also need another striker in the event that Jackson Mwanza, Jesse Were and Mbombo are all not available for a crucial game. The only striker in the Zambian Super League who can do it is Nkana FC's Walter Bwalya.
