Despite a 2-1 win for the Zambian Super League defending champions Zesco United in the 1st leg of the CAF African Champions League semi-final, questions will surely be asked about how their fullbacks and holding midfielders were allowed to roam forward freely, with 10 minutes to go, leading 2-0 at home.
There is no doubting that Zesco have done a thoroughly impressive job in getting here to the semi-final and holding a 2-1 aggregate lead in the first leg of the semis.
However, they will be disappointed that since the opening day of the competition, they have failed to keep a clean sheet, because of this same carelessness and behavior of defensive players wanting to go forward even when the better option would be to stay back and defend. Zesco conceded a cheap away consolation goal in the dying minutes against Mamelodi Sundowns due to the same lack of defensive discipline. And they will hope it does not come back to haunt them in the 2nd leg.
